Assistive Technology

Technology can be extremely useful allowing children and adults the opportunity to have a voice and advocate for their individual needs. Though the price of i-pads have reduced, setting up an AAC device is still costly. Here are some steps to fund an alternative augmentative communication device (AAC).

Request consultation: Request an AAC consultation and evaluation to see which device is most effective.

Gather professional letters to submit to insurance or charities outlining the area of need and medical necessity.

Contact school officials and IEP team to see about adding the Augmentative Communication Device into the IEP and Funding for the the AAC device. If a client needs a communication system, it should be funded through the school district.

Contact insurance companies to see if AAC devices can be funded through a durable medical equipment provider or another funding method.

Contact the local agencies such as CDDO to see if they have additional funds or scholarships to fund such device
